Elise cried herself to sleep that night, in a state of shame and fear. She was afraid that her parents would no longer treat her the same way. That was a valid fear, because of how the responded. Her younger sister was concerned rather than disgusted. She feared for her sister's soul. That morning Elise felt disgusted with herself. No one spoke kindly or gently to her, they all sort of ignored her. Her parents were ashamed, but rather than directly attacking her, they quarreled amongst themselves. It was as if they blamed each other for their daughters sexuality. After eating breakfast, she and her sister went to school. On the way to her high school she sat in the back of the bus to avoid anyone who wanted to mistreat her. She could trust no one, because almost everyone knew what she was.

She made the biggest mistake of her life telling people about this. When the bus made it's way to her school, the real teasing began. All of it was from people she knew, they all had something terrible to say. Hearing people call her names like "Dyke" and telling her that she was going to go to hell was unbearable. Deep down she felt like she deserved it, as if it were God's way of punishing her. She just walked down there in shame, she refused to cry in front of them, no matter how close she came to doing it. She wanted to die right there, but she was too afraid. She was tired of benig alive, however she felt like if she died she'd be in hell. Maybe she was choosing this, perhaps she brought all of this on herself.

She had it just as bad in the lunch line. She just sat down alone, no one would sit with her, or even speak to her, unless it was to insult her. That all changed as a young girl sat down beside her. She said, "Hello"
"Hi" Elise responded.
"My name is Cassie"
"I'm Elise"
"I heard those mean things they were saying to you"
"Yea"
"I was heartbroken I tried to do something about it"
"Really"
"I told the principal yesterday, but I don't think he's going to do anything"
"I just wish it could stop"
"I know, I'm so sorry"
"If you sit here, people will say the same thing to you"
"I don't care, I can't hang around anyone who'd do that"
"It's my fault"
"Why? For being who you are"
"But I'm not what God wants me to be"
"Your perfect, this is how God made you"
"Why would God do this?"
"He made you, you"
"I just don't know"
"I've gone through the same thing you'd gone through, and I still am. It just makes me so sad to see you go through this alone"
"What do you mean? Are you..."
"Yes, all my life, there's nothing wrong with it"
"But what about the Bible"
"I'm sure God can forgive me for this, I can't help it"
"Well, neither can I"
"I'm so happy you understand that"
"But all my friends are gone"
"They weren't ever your friends if they're talking about you like this."
"Yea"
"I like you, do you wanna hang out some time"
"I can't I told my parents that I'm... you know. I just know they'd think the worst automatically"
"We can still talk though, do you have a facebook"
"No"
"Do you have a computer"
"Yes"
"If you can get a facebook maybe we can talk sometimes"
"I'd really like that"

The two talked all through lunch and learned about all the stuff they had in common. Elise was so happy to find someone who not only tolerated her, but accepted her. Being who she was wasn't just allowed but encouraged. Cassie knew what Elise had gone through, she had walked through her shoe's many times. Cassie knew that she needed a friend. By the time lunch was over, both of them learned a lot about each other. At the end of school, they walked out together. People were talking about them, but niether of them cared. They were just happy to be friends.

Elise made her way back home and expected the worst. She got much more. Her mother, father, and sister were there, but why was the Pastor of her church there. At first she was mad about this, but then her mind began to shift. Not because she liked the reason he was there, but because he was surprisingly nice to her. When she walked in, he greeted her immediately. He said, "Hello Elise" She was startled by the fact that he was even there and nervously said, "Um hi"
"Your parents invited me over, your mother told me you had something important to say"
"Uh, I've found myself attracted to girls."
"I understand, you know what that is right?"
"No"
"That is the devil inside you, when your driven by a sinful desire there is a spirit behind it."
"No that's stupid" Elise's father interrupted, "I know why she's like this"
"Please sir, you're really upsetting Elise, that's not what we're here for"
"No, she's being that way for attention, she wants to be different that's whats wrong." Elise's father was getting angry as he said this. His wife shouted, "Why would anyone want to be gay? The way gays are treated these days, especially here in the bible belt? That would be stupid"
He replied, "It makes more sense than, 'oh she's possessed'"
The preacher said, "Your daughter loves God, I know this, she's going through a difficult time right now, she can't control it"
Elise's mom interjected, "I'm starting to think it's just a phase."

Elise said, "I can't do this, I'm going upstairs" Her pastor simply said, "That's perfectly okay, me and your parents have a lot to discuss." As her and her mother and her pastor argue, she ran up to her room in a deep depression. They hadn't even begun to try and help her. No one had even tried to help her overcome her sexuality, because they couldn't even agree on what it was. They quarreled amongst themselves and Elise was caught in the middle of their tempest. She went upstairs with her head hung low, and she was all of sudden greeted with a friendly face. Her little sister Nancy hoped up and said, "Hey sis"
"Nancy what are you doing in my room"
"I was waiting"
"For what?"
"The news"
"What news?"
"Did he fix you"
"Who?"
"Pastor"
"No"
"Oh dang, how are you supposed to turn normal"
"Listen Nancy, I don't think there's anything wrong with you"
"That's just Satan talking"
"Listen it's important that you understand this"
"No way, we're going to be together in heaven, me and you, and mom and dad"
"I can't change, this is how God made me"
"No way"
"Please leave I have stuff to do
"I guess you are a lesbian"
"Yes I am, that's who I am"
"It's cause your mean"
"What does that have to do with anything"
"Everyone knows lesbians are mean"
"Lesbians are not mean... whatever"
"Sister knows best"
"Older sister that is"
"You wait, I'm going to fix you somehow, and your going to be right in heaven one day"
"I just wish you could understand I can't fix this"

Elise began to switch on her computer so that she may go online. Her little sister asked, "What are you doing?"
"I'm making a Facebook"
"What's that?"
"It's a social network, it lets you talk to people over the computer"
"Who are you going to talk to"
"I met this girl at school, she's just like me, different"
"How different?... Oh, she's one of your kind"
"I'd prefer if you don't say 'our kind'"
"Whatever"
"You don't have anything smart to say?"
"No your the smart one, you and her are going to help get normal together"
"Not exactly"
"Wait... ewwwww"
"We're just freinds"
"You'd better be, no sister of mine is gonna go to hell"
"I'm not... just get out already"
"Fine, but can I ask you something"
"*sigh* what?"
"It's about your kind"
"Stop saying that... just... what? Just what?"
"No need to be mean, it's just, if you are attracted to girls, are you attracted to me?"
"No, that's disgusting"
"But you like girls? Am I just ugly?"
"No, your just eleven"
"What about that girl you met?"
"Listen, please just shut up and listen, your my little sister and I love you to death, but I don't want you thinking like this, please, you're nice, you're smart, you're cute..."
"What do you mean cute?"
"You... Oh my God you have a dirty mind"
"No, your the one who's attracted to me"
"I am not attracted to you?"
"Yea you are your a lesbian, and I'm still gonna tell mom"
"If you tell mom I'm gonna break all your toys"
"All... All of them?"
"Yes"
"Errr... fine you win this time"
"And you're free to go"
"No, I'm bored, I wanna mess with you"
"Why?"
"Cause it's fun to make you mad"
"So this is all a joke to you?"
"No, I'm just having fun with it, but I really want you to change"
"Why?"
"Because when we're all gone, we can't be a family with God if you're not there."

Nancy was annoying, but Elise found it hard to get so mad at her. She was only eleven, plus she wasn't like the others. She just want's her big sister to go to heaven. Nancy was not angry or sickened by her, but concerned. At the time, other than Cassie, Nancy was the closest thing to a friend to Elise. She still loved her little sister, as annoying as she was. Plus she wasn't meaning it to be mean, she was just naive. Deep down Elise was laughing, it was all cute too her, no matter how offensive it was. Nancy didn't hate her or lesbians in general, her motivation for trying to change Elise was innocent. She just wanted her family to be together forever. It seems like Elise and Nancy were the closest bond in that household. Every day her parents fought like cats and dogs. Part of her felt guilty. If she never told them she was a lesbian they'd still get along. Regardless it was time for them to go to bed.
Elise declared, "Well... Go brush your teeth it's time for bed
"Well... you better be straight by morning"
"Or?"
"Or... Or I'll complain about it"
"You really mean it don't you"
"You don't even know"
"Trust me I do, now get a bath, brush your teeth, and go to bed"
"You can't tell me what to do"
"Mom!!!"
"Okay I'm going"

While Elise was getting nagged on, she finally finished making her profile. She sent a friend request to her friend. She was tired and anxious to see Cassie again. She went to bed. Finally she somewhat anticipated the next day. She was off to bed, but first she had to wait. At about now the stress of the day hits her very hard. She was prepared to go off and cut herself. She waited until about 1:00 AM, when no one was there to see. She took her anger out on herself, using the sharp razor blade, once again.
It's still a dark story, but it can still have humor in it

Very sad. And also, I'm not sure which of Elise's parents is stupider.
